by Leslie Lee, is an innovative and inspiring fusion of architecture, photographs, poetry, and visionary philosophy.
Lee, with architect, Roger A. Hummel, and hundreds of the area’s finest craftspeople built this incredible house, barn and grounds to last the ages. Pine Hollow represents vernacular architecture that celebrates the natural elements of our Northwest Lower Michigan geography and culture. The seven-acre site includes six hundred feet of Lake Michigan shoreline, dunes, woods, prairie and meadow. The luminous photography of Hedrich Blessing of Chicago, Nancy Crafts of Sausalito, and local Ken Scott saturate the pages that are captioned by the twenty-two stanza poem by Leslie Lee.
In 2014, Pine Hollow in Elk Rapids, Michigan was donated by Leslie Lee to the nonprofit Pine Hollow Institute which seeks to heal people and planet Earth through intelligence, creativity and compassion. Lee hopes the book will introduce this property and organization to the world, and her poetry inspire others to always strive for a better future.
